I'm not exaggerating when I say roaming around Colmar's Old Town finally makes me understand how it feels to be a character in fairy tales. The happily-ever-after Disney versions though, not the original gloomy ones. This little town in the Alsace region of France, near the German border, is too charming! It just so happens I love anything vintage-y, just like almost every house and building I came across there. There were times when I had to suppress the urge to endlessly take pictures as I also wanted to enjoy the view and be there completely, without the distraction of any lens and gadgets. 

I went there with my little brother who is visiting me for his summer break. The first destination we headed to was La Petite Venise, relatively close to the Old Town. It was an absolutely charming area! Oh gosh, I have to consult the dictionary to find other words for charming otherwise I will keep using it for I don't know how many times. But seriously, I muttered the word 'charming' at random intervals during our time in Colmar. My brother must have been sick of me and my excess fascination with Colmar but he did a good job keeping it to himself. Haha.

I immediately suggested to my brother that we should take the boat ride. I didn't care if it was cliché, I wanted to have a preview of Little Venice before I go to the actual one in Italy. The boat ride cost €6 /person and it lasted for 30 minutes. There were a total of 8 passengers on the boat. The guide was very helpful; he asked us if it was better for him to speak English to us. He ended up speaking French, English and German. He told us that Colmar has a population of about 65,000 people.

All we wanted to do was chill and relax, drink coffee, tea or riesling, and take in the view. We didn't go to any museums cause we were in the mood to just take a walk around Old Town and the surrounding. Fortunately, the day we got there the weather was sunny.

We spent 2 days and 1 night in Colmar, and we personally think it was enough to explore the town. In addition, both my brother and I think that Old Town Colmar really does feel like a town in Italy. Now, we have never been to Italy so it might have sounded a little know-it-all of us to come up with this assumption. But from the many pictures and movies set in Italy, we imagine that parts of Colmar might resemble some parts of towns or cities in Italy. There is only one way to find out, we should pack our bags and fly to Italy!
